Winters in the Triangle are chilly, but you won’t have to worry about extreme cold. Highs in February average in the mid-50s, while lows average in the upper-20s. Our area gets less than four inches of snow per year, but it’s just enough to turn Durham into a winter wonderland.

Nevermore Horror and Gothic Film Festival

Calling all horror movie buffs! Nevermore Horror and Gothic Film Festival “is a juried competition festival that programs brand-new feature and short films with an emphasis on horror, science fiction, dark fantasy, animation, and mystery/thrillers from around the world.” The festival has been around for more than 20 years and has even been named a “Top 100 Film Festival” by FilmFreeway and “One of the Best Horror Film Festivals in the World” by Dread Central.

Krispy Kreme Challenge

The one-of-a-kind Triangle race is probably something you’ve never heard of before. Participants run 2.5 miles through Raleigh to the local Krispy Kreme where they eat a full dozen glazed donuts. The real challenge? They then have to run 2.5 miles back to the start line to finish the race all in under one hour! If you’re up for it, the Krispy Kreme Challenge is a beloved Triangle event known as the number one tradition to complete before graduating from North Carolina State University.

If you’re a basketball fan, you get your pick between two of the country’s top college basketball programs: Duke University and the University of North Carolina. Or if the arts are more your things, get out of the cold and catch a show or musical at Carolina Theatre or the Durham Performing Arts Center.
